Long Weekend Randomness

wherein… …we garden… …filling the spaces, pots, and planters with an assortment of foliage, plants, seeds, and other recently purchased bits of life, flora, soil, et cetera, in a vaguely directional attempt to beautify this little chunk of land we call our back yard, a haven for rapid greening in a short five month window prior to yet another inevitable snowfall that reduces it all to brown chaos, death, and depression. …we party… …or at least as much as a couple with a tag-along child can at a birthday-slash-going away party at Jess and Martin’s house, grilling various meats with folks we sorta-know through past associations at similar gatherings in distantly fleeting memories. …i run… …logging yet another nine point some kilometers around the neighborhood [...]

Daddy Days of Summer

It is finally nice enough outside to escape the bonds of home. It being my flex day yesterday — and also in the mid-twenty-cees — I think it would be a fair calculation to say that I spent more of my waking hours yesterday outside than in. Lovely. Claire and I enjoyed the backyard for about an hour and a half after breakfast, she continuing the effort of breaking in her swing set while I made sure that every plant in the backyard was sufficiently soaked. The little girl was absolutely fascinated by (a) the water, trying to help out whenever she could, (b) the flowers, which I’ve finally convinced her not to paw and pluck, and (c) the spiders, who require her protection as [...]

Rainy Weekend are Good For Something

Even though we’ve had enough small breaks in the rain to do SOME yardwork, break up some soil, fill our planters, and pull some weeds, the rain has kept us indoors for most of the weekend. Apart from attempting to sleep in and watching some DVDs, the weekend has been good for some things. For example, I managed to upload another gallery worth of photos. That makes two (almost 150 pics) since I last wrote an update here. Lots of you have managed to locate the Hungary gallery, but as of about an hour ago, the Poland album is up too. Highlights include not only another great collection of us and other random people in front of lots of old European buildings, churches, and monuments, [...]

drivewaycasting

The joys of the modern age: sitting in your shorts and a tee in a lawnchair in the sun on your driveway with a laptop computer, a three-thousand song digital music collection, and a wireless broadband internet connection. How sweet is that? I suppose the only things that might make it perfect would be a cold beer. And maybe some soft green grass into which to plant my feet. Instead of a lawn there grows a plethora of tall green weeds with flowers that look remarkably like daisies. Oh, and thistles. There are always thistles. The condo sales centre across the road and down a bit looks like it’s getting ready to close shoppe for the day. Some dude down the street is sitting in [...]

little house on the prairie

I’ve contemplated something. But, I’m not sure: significant things demand significant attention. And I’m not sure if, in this case, significant attention requires something as significant as it’s own website. I mean, after all, Brett and Lenore did it. They took the plunge. They tried to orchestrate their own little construction in the midst of a larger one. A decision is immenent: I pondered it a little, even stretching to consider a domain name fitting for the grand event. But I think, perhaps, that this — here — is where this site becomes more interesting. And so, simply, I’ll avoid the tangled distractions of yet another website, and focus my energies here. And begin the bold story of another, less abstract garden, somewhere in a [...]
