I don’t claim to have a real good sense of the value of social networks. For introverted folks like myself, I prefer the information-core of the Internet over the social-core. But, I do use tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+ to share links and update those people who do love the social-core and rely on it for their daily doses of updates. Google+, just yesterday, launched the “Pages” feature for their users. As of right now, the advantage to a page (versus a basic user) is unclear. From my perspective it just seems as if I’d be starting over gathering users and followers on new page profile after having spent recent months cultivating a small following on my personal profile. But hey, maybe it [...]
I had planned to go out on a more adventurous romp through somewhere more interesting than my own backyard. An expedition, maybe. I had noticed there has been an awesome fog sitting on Whitemud Creek at Smyth Crossing every morning these days as I drive or bus by. I thought it might be interested to take the dog over there. But I was good: I did my chores first, mowing the lawn, cleaning up the yard, and tending to the dog. And then we got rain.

Today is my brother Derek’s thirty-second birthday. Most readers either (a) know that or (b) don’t care. I only mention it now because nine years ago today, thanks to a reminder and according to the little script currently running on this blog, I posted a happy twenty-third birthday wish to him in the form of a fairly ridiculous song-lyric-schmozzle-bad-joke, all of it very probably indicative of our brotherly-relationship at the time… but who can say. In fact, at the time of that particular post, he’d have been married for the better part of a week and both Karin and I were complete absorbed in the other fact that, nine-years-ago today, she had just taken possession of that wee little subletted basement suite (where she lived [...]
Three things have prompted me to give readers a bit of an update on the banoffee pie saga I wrote about here a little more than a month ago. First, I’ve noticed that about thirty percent of the traffic that came to this site since I’ve posted that ‘informative’ anecdote has been as a result of people searching for “banoffee pie” in Google. Second, I made a very successful banoffee pie over the holidays — on the 24th of December to be precise — and the family enjoyed it that evening, and; Third, I’ve finally (as in just this past weekend) posted the pictures from the holiday season and thus now have a photograph of the aforementioned banoffee pie for everyone to see (and presumably [...]

… in case anyone is interested. As always, gallery.8r4d.com is the link.
Things are starting to settle into routine. What does that mean for the new family? It’s time for PHOTOS! Hurrah! Huhzah! Click! Snap! Woosh! Over the coming couple of months — rather than scatter hundreds (as there are likely to be) random mug shots of the Claire Bear into numerous galleries and albums — I’ll be grouping them into some broad categories in my gallery, and only in my gallery. It will be like this: For example, the first two albums were the “Welcome to Earth, Claire!” sub-album covering the first day or so, and then the “Papa on Pat Leave” sub-album chronicling my two weeks of vacation adjusting to fatherhood. The first BIG anthology is going to be that linked to by the image [...]
