This is yet another a cross post from my Pixel Game Blog and another entry in my Pixel Game photo project, my weekly photo scavenger hunt for random photo awesomeness… based on the rolls of some dice.
Week 003 : 3 + 2 + 6 + 6
I’ve been in a LEGO kinda mood again lately. You could probably blame it on the fact we finally went to the theatre the other weekend and saw (in probably in one of it’s last showings) the aptly named film of the same theme. Either way, we’ve had the LEGOs out and about, kicking around, and –being home sick and all– I started snapping photos with my own project theme in mind… and some other things, too.
The funny thing about the famous coloured building bricks is that they can convey a number of different emotions. After all, we just watched a whole animated movie that was largely composed of scenes constructed out of plastic bricks and managed to feel compassion and empathy for the same. As a result, I’ve been putting some effort into posing and photographing my own LEGO-built critters (some of that notion extending back to the idea of a serialized story for my blog) and have discovered that with the right combination of pieces we humans can fall into the trap of anthropomorphizing an assorted collection of stuck-together studs.
Yet here I am submitting a macro-like close-up of a random collision of bits as a “still life” shot. Odd, the juxtaposition that emerges from that, huh? It makes you think, doesn’t it?
Thus, I’d contend, that there are multiple motivations behind this image. The curious collision of project and the abstraction of inanimate plastic bits as an emotional vice grip, assembled or not.
