It was pointed out to me recently that in the sunlight of the #metoo campaign that has been sweeping the world in recent months (whether intended or just accidentally misinterpreted) the lyrics of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” come across as more than a little old fashioned and a bit casual about implied assault.
I’s usually pretty tough to objectively judge the quality of one’s own playing, but it’s a good sign that while at my lesson after playing through one of my practice pieces, one that I’ve been working on for about a month now, Minuet 3 by Bach in fact, my instructor suggested we (finally) move onto another piece because that one is (apart from noting a few string bumps and scratches) pretty much “performance ready.” I’m not sure I’m performance ready, but I guess that’s a sign of progress, right?
After eight decades, apparently the Happy Birthday song is now in the public domain. It’s only a coincidence that this happened on Claire’s birthday. Really.
With a new pickup truck and a (nearly) eight year old daughter, it’s probably (regrettably and embarrassingly) something from the Taylor Swift catalog.
Ice, Ice Baby. (Or not.)
I wish it were something more inspiring, but with a 6-year-old in the house, no. “Everything is Awesome” by Tegan and Sara plays frequently in my life these days. *sigh*
Everything is AWESOME! Everything is AWESOME! Everything is AWESOME! Everything is AWESOME when you’re livin’ the dream… am I driving you crazy yet daddy?
