Karin and I were chatting and — just having come off a wild-and-crazy few months — we need to take some time to simplify our lives. In fact, we need to simplify so much that I’m adding one more level of complexity in the effort to simplify: I’m declaring May our Month of Mental Decluttering. Call it a spring self-cleaning. Call it a reckoning to simplification of soul. Call it a measured metering of our day-to-day existence. Whatever you call it, each day in the month of May we’ll be doing one thing to un-complex our lives. Now the tricky part: how does one find thirty-one things to simplify in one’s life? It sounds simple until you ask for just one example. In fact, it [...]
After three contests, it was bound to happen eventually. Thanks to everyone who voted in last month’s contest: Matt and I were neck-and-neck for a while there, but now I’m once again stuck picking the theme for this month. Once again, check back to the original post for the rules. The entries for this month are due by midnight on the last day of April, and can be sent to me directly or posted as links in the comments. So… April. I’m borrowing (and adapting) a theme from someone else — though I saw it a while ago and I can’t recall who or where it came from. This is not exactly tricky, but it should add an extra challenge. Your theme is: Famous Song [...]
The third edition of the PhotoShootChallenge resulted in a nice slate of entries. Now it’s again time for the uber-judging to begin. This is it: prepare yourself for the final title of best flavour of the month. You have one week from this post until the winner is announced and the next theme is revealed. Only one vote per IP, so get your friends or alter-egos to vote for the most worthwhile interpretation of the theme. Entries in order of submission: 1. Brad (Photo) 2. Ryan (Photo) 3. Mother-in-Law (Photo) 4. Gail (Photo) 5. b8s Family (Photo) The Vote: Pick your choice for the best photo based on the theme “COLA OF CHOICE” — preferably choosing based on merit and quality, not just on the [...]
so get your photos up and in. Only two days left to post your entries for PhotoShootChallenge #3.

How cold is it where YOU are today? The thermometer in my car read -38 C when I pulled into the parking lot this morning.
Alas, last months judging is now complete and the clear popular favorite was Chris with his abundance of pixelated romance. That means everyone should comment below with either: (a) A heartfelt congrats to Chris for both remembering to submit and then sweeping the polls, and/or; (b) A link to you entry for next months PhotoShootChallenge with the March theme, as submitted by February’s winner: “The Cola of Choice” As I’m not a cola drinker myself, I spent some time this afternoon wondering if I could get away with a picture of my cola-substitute: coffee. But ultimately I figure it will be up to entrants to interpret the theme as they will and judges to evaluate those entries come April 1. Remember: Your March theme is [...]
