It’s that time again. Woot! For the seventh year in a row — fourth as a team leader — the Edmonton Fringe Festival is once more in full swing and I’m primed with camera in hand to help with the whole multimedia-slash-photography thing. My first shift is on the morrow. Given my role as a team leader I’m in the interesting position of not actually having a formal photography assignment like our other hard working volunteers — I don’t need to go out and capture one specific theme or set of images, as we enforce (however loosely) upon our crew. And that’s good. It really leaves me free to do two things: (a) fill gaps in our content and (b) wander the grounds and experiment [...]
It’s been something. That’s all. One day the world is spinning, crazy, out.of.control busy. The next big plan: sit and forget. Claire smacked her head Monday while playing at the day home. A generous goose-egg and a teary-eyed girl were waiting for me when I swept back mid-morning to pick her up. Don’t start thinking it slowed her down any though. She was back up to her daredevil tricks by late afternoon. I found my iPod. Og! Didn’t I mention that my wonderful daughter had hid it (very well) as a belated Easter game? No? Well, she did. And I spent a full day trying to find the darn thing. Given up, in fact, I’d so thoroughly searched the house and convinced myself that I’d [...]
After three contests, it was bound to happen eventually. Thanks to everyone who voted in last month’s contest: Matt and I were neck-and-neck for a while there, but now I’m once again stuck picking the theme for this month. Once again, check back to the original post for the rules. The entries for this month are due by midnight on the last day of April, and can be sent to me directly or posted as links in the comments. So… April. I’m borrowing (and adapting) a theme from someone else — though I saw it a while ago and I can’t recall who or where it came from. This is not exactly tricky, but it should add an extra challenge. Your theme is: Famous Song [...]
The third edition of the PhotoShootChallenge resulted in a nice slate of entries. Now it’s again time for the uber-judging to begin. This is it: prepare yourself for the final title of best flavour of the month. You have one week from this post until the winner is announced and the next theme is revealed. Only one vote per IP, so get your friends or alter-egos to vote for the most worthwhile interpretation of the theme. Entries in order of submission: 1. Brad (Photo) 2. Ryan (Photo) 3. Mother-in-Law (Photo) 4. Gail (Photo) 5. b8s Family (Photo) The Vote: Pick your choice for the best photo based on the theme “COLA OF CHOICE” — preferably choosing based on merit and quality, not just on the [...]
so get your photos up and in. Only two days left to post your entries for PhotoShootChallenge #3.

scatter.
Having overwhelmed my poor self (pity party?) with a heaping pile of crazy obligations, readers shouldn’t be surprised that I haven’t had much time to write much here besides ranting scatter shot posts of everything under the sun. Claire celebrated her half-birthday yesterday. She’s officially eighteen months old. One and a half. Where has the time gone? We treated her with a visit to the grandparents, a drive through the lingering remains of a snowstorm, and an impromptu haircut in the bathtub (because her bangs were just so darned long!) There is just one more week to get your photos in for the latest PhotoShootChallenge. No extensions this time. Battlestar Galactica is over. *sniff* After four seasons of mind-blowing science fiction, the finale aired Friday [...]
