Also known as the “let’s try this ride along with the kid thing again” run.
Claire was eager enough. She packed a little drawstring backpack with books and snacks and her iPod. I loaded her bike into the back of the truck. And just like that she was part of the club, peddling along ahead of us as we ran out to the hill.
Lesson learned from last time, I parked her at the bottom of the hill, in the bottom of the valley just past the bridge over the creek. There she sat, munching her cheese bun, watching videos, reading, guarding water bottles, and cheering on the 25+ runners plodding up and down, up and down, passing her as she sat.
The climb back out of the valley was a little tricky for her, but she finished with a grin and earned her hot chocolate back at the cafe. I’m not sure if it will be an “every week” thing, but it definitely worked better this time.
