What a difference a year makes.
In 2012, just as October was drawing to a close, I was marking my distance progress in terms of the total klicks I’d run for the year (so far) and noting having passed a tiny milestone: 1000 km that year. I’d reached it with two months to spare on the year, crossing over the imaginary threshold on a quiet, chilly run on the evening of October 30th.
In 2013, I thought I’d do the same. I was running a lot more that year, and the same milestone was reached almost three months sooner, in the opening days of August. Record. Obliterated!
But then 2014. And we don’t need to go through the trials and tribulations of 2014 again do we? It’s been a year, and I’ve been racing and pacing to catch up to where I sort of expect to be… which is slightly ahead of 2012.
And so it seems to be be working. I’m slightly ahead of 2012. Not by much… but ahead. And to measure that trivial difference, a milestone passed and measured once again: a quiet Saturday morning run clocking in at a little over 8 clicks brought me past the the 1000 km on-the-calendar-year mark. A mere 12 days ahead of 2012… and waaaaaaay behind 2013. But past a thousand for a third year in a row. Not too shabby.
