It’s Haul Your Weird Stuff on a Trailer Day

… or, apparently. My commute this morning was greeted with three rather unusual cargo sights. If only I’d thought to bring a camera. 1) A flatbed truck was hauling the sign for the new airport parking lot. That might not seem too weird, signs and stuff being hauled about all the time I’m sure, but this sign happened to be a thirty-foot diameter, hockey-puck-shaped, lime-coloured, monstrosity of a green disc emblazoned with the words “Value Park” in a bold white font. 2) Another flatbed truck was hauling what appeared to be a piece of the International Space Station. Or, maybe some other complex bit of technology. Though given that we’re in the middle of oil-rig country, it probably had something to do with that and [...]

an unusually blunt

Typically I step back from the hypocritical whining of the Monday-Morning Distressor. Yes, mondays are painful, dragging oneself to work after a weekend of whateverness, but they are also repetitive, predictable, and inevitable. There is rarely ever cause to fluster one’s emotions over the return of the work-week illusionstate. But this was a weekend. A real weekend. A painful weekend of late-dancing-or-driving-nights, ten-kilometer-early morning-runs, box-hauling afternoons, and long winded days of too much food that I wouldn’t normally eat. This morning I woke up at 4:30, walking to get a glass of water from the bathroom, crashing into doors in a combination of groggy-barely-awakeness and I-can-feel-every-muscle-in-my-body pain-ness. That’s what the weekend did to me. It’s not that I’m out of shape. It’s that these types [...]

photoshootphoto

photoshootphoto The weather here has been amazing. Both Monday and also yesterday I took the opportunity afforded by the warm sun and skated home, the first real big test of my new blades. Other than some difficulties in navigating a couple of new routes — though I think I have it figured out now — I survived the hour-long ordeal with nothing more than a couple sweaty t-shirts. Karin and I were discussing the benefits of commuting via in-line skates and realized that it has the following benefits: 1 :: no stinking bus ride — but that’s a given 2 :: as it takes the same amount (+/- 10 minutes) of time as other forms of commuting I am currently using, I am not losing [...]

A week goes by

A week goes by without even a thought in the wind… What is wrong with that equation? 1) Bachelor party goes well with only a few people ending up in a dress. Derek was the required victim, but others were apparently jealous. And I still have bruises from the paintball episodes. 2) Karin is now officially moved out of Edmonton, and “in transition” while she waits to move out to Vancouver next week. We spent a few hours yesterday cleaning, hauling, eating, and playing with the various people involved in the production. 3) The wedding is about to kick it up a notch as we go into Red Alert mode… is this good or bad? I await the final verdict as we see how people [...]
