I’m split between two Switch games this month: Skyrim and (don’t judge me) Farming Simulator, the best zen-out pretend tractor simulator ever made.

Oh, but who am I kidding?
I dug my Steam Link out of the basement from where it had landed after the last bout of pre-summer gaming, hooked up to the tv in the basement, and for whatever reason opted to try a lazy Sunday plugged into some video games.
Claire, over my shoulder, no more than ten seconds after I’d connected it and loaded up a little indie farming simulation role-player called Stardew Valley (I thought she’d like it and at least watch) says, “Can I play?”
I didn’t get the keyboard back for about two hours. No. Not kidding.
I’ve got a bunch of these little games poking around. On my phone I’ve been playing Simpsons: Tapped Out. It used to be Tiny Tower (or Tiny Death Star if you wanted the cross-branded version.) Before that? I’m sure it was something. Farmville maybe. They’re not all about farming, not literally, but they all involve checking in on little resource engines that slowly, slowly, slowly pump out limited resources into a fake little economy and have you checking in, tapping, harvesting, collecting, whatever…
They are becoming the bane of my existence — not because I don’t enjoy playing them, either. The opposite. They grab onto my weak will and I waste so much time with just. one. more. cycle. and…
If I had the willpower… delete. Unfortunately, I don’t have time for that kind of focus: I’ve gotta go check my simulated virtual farm for more digital parsnips.
