Karin is back at work. Claire spends three days a week at a day home with other kids. We’re closing in on autumn, and as the weather is cooling, the girl’s first birthday is rapidly approaching. And to top it all off I am now officially on flex-time, the calculated management of my work schedule that should allow me to take a day per week home from the office and with Claire. It’s the plan, anyhow, and yesterday marked day one of this grand experiment. As promised, I’m going to try and write at least one entry per week chronicling the mundane associated adventures. This is the first, and in keeping I shall write not much more than to say it was something of a [...]
So you are aware… with my role at the Fringe wrapping, I thought I’d dive head first into yet another photography project. Yes, it’s that time again. With Claire’s eleven-month birthday just yesterday I began a new daily photo campaign that can be located in the cool confines of my gallery; click the image below to locate it directly. As for the Fringe stuff? Well, you may recall that I don’t actually retain the copyright to those pictures (or — before you sticklers correct me — I have handed over my rights to those pics in good faith to Fringe Theater) so I won’t be posting those anywhere public. You can have a look if you want by visiting and peeking at the slide show [...]
So…. quick poll. What’s worse: your dad not only ignoring you, but pausing to take pictures of you as you are miserable and crying — or that he posts them on the Internet for all to see? Some day I’m sure I’ll have some explaining to do. Until then, well, lets just say the delicate act of growing new teeth is apparently a frustrating experience. She isn’t always crying, but the trigger on that is a little more touchy than usual.
You know you’ve been writing a blog for a long time when you can go back and reference the post you wrote last February twenty-ninth. Speaking of free days, last February twenty-ninth (one thousand, four hundred and sixty one days ago) I was in Banff, in the mountains, at a neuromuscular science conference representing my previous employer. I think I seemed just as lost back then as I seem right now. Or, worse, I am just as lost now as I was back then. Since it’s my free day I’ve opted to include a less-than-flattering photo of my daughter. I think she was trying to be a pirate in this one. And a dozen years from now she’s going to hate the fact that photo [...]
December 22 The girl is officially three months old today. I guess we’re keeping her. For the recap, she can do the following quirky things: Day 22: So this is what a troublemaker looks like! -> balance her watermelon of a head with excellent precision on her shoulders for up to five minutes. -> track the monotonous pacing motions of her dad from both a seated and more horizontal position on the floor. -> expel measured gurgles of air past her vocal chords and fool her parents into thinking she’s actually saying something. -> expel bursts of air past her vocal chords and make her parents come running from the other side of the house to see what the fuss is about. -> entertain herself [...]
