Income -vs- Costs

Yes, this is a so-called ad-supported blog. I’m not supposed to tell you that clicking those ads and images will eventually result in a small amount of payment for me. Very small, but it adds up — accumilates — and someday I might make some cash on it to contribute to the costs of this site. (It’s not free, you know.) That said, I’ll put a caveat on it: those nice folks who have paid to have their ads show up in the rotation are relying on business. Click on the links to find out more about their products and services, and in the spirit of a free-market economy, if those products and services are worth your time and money, then support those businesses. Indirectly, they tend to make things like this site possible: so by supporting them, you’re supporting me.

What does it cost to run a blog like this? Lots of folks ask, so here it is; What follows is a minimum breakdown of how I pay for this site.

Domain Registration:
(per annum, per domain) variable, ~$6 to $10 /a
Sub-domains (eg. subdomain.8r4d.com) included in hosting.

Hosting:
(Billed monthly, multi-function) ~$150/a
100 GB with more traffic than I’ll ever need, databases, and access to vital built-in software and functions to manage site — hosts all my personal sites in one package.

Software:
Server-side (Wordpress, gallery, etc) open-source, donation supported
Development (image manipulation, editors) variable, multi-purpose.
