There are just some things you can’t learn from a book. Leading into the holidays, Karin and I simultaneously noticed a Groupon promotion for an Alberta-based photography school called FotoScool (www.fotoscool.ca) where they were offering their introductory “basic” workshop for about one-third of their list value. I told her. She told me. And… Well, guess what I got for Christmas. When I attended last Saturday I found myself sitting at a table with three other guys who’s wives had also bought them the same gift for Christmas. It was like a club, or something. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into that early weekend morning, driving over with my music blasting on the car stereo, half-way round the city to [...]

I was, earlier today while working on some of those mindless tasks at the office, listening to a podcast interview with David Hodgson. Hodgson is (sort-of) known as the guy who writes a lot of game strategy guides, particularly for the games I’ve personally been playing a lot of lately — Fallout and Skyrim, to be specific. While I didn’t ever pick up the strategy guide for Fallout, I have lately (after clocking over fourty hours of play therein) purchased the guide for Skyrim. The book is a telephone directory-sized tome of small-fonted, screen-capped goodness, measuring at somewhere over seven hundred pages, and detailing locations, characters, sub-plots, and checklists for a whole breadth of in-game complexity. And — though I’m certain there will be some [...]

A “reloaded” post is a quick-clipped summary of a bunch of small things from the past few days. I want to write them down, but I am either lacking in (a) details or (b) time. That’s just how it goes sometimes. Enjoy. MultiCulture Weekend I’m all dosed up for my regular injection of multicultural activities — for a few days, at least. Saturday night the highland dance group to which Karin belongs hosted their annual Robbie Burns event. Karin, it being an ongoing possibility that one of these years she’ll just retire from dancing and focus on our daughter’s involvement (but probably not really) bought tickets for both sets of parents to see her perform. She sewed Claire a sort of mini-kilt, too, so between [...]
