I haven’t been writing here much. Live has intervened, got stupid-busy. No… stupid. freaking. busy.
I can’t even.
So here’s the recap of the last couple months (minus the juicy professional-life gossip which is the privileged domain of those who buy me beer and dive into deep, dark tales of how I spend my days.)
My comic has been trucking along. I’m approaching the one year mark of publishing “this is pi day” online, so if you haven’t jumped on the brad-as-cartoonist bandwagon quite yet, it might be getting a little late. I mean, I’m practically a seasoned comic strip veteran now.
I’ve been swimming consistently. I’ve been going at least weekly. It helps having some friends who kick you in the ass when you don’t show up, but seriously … it might be a little premature to declare cross-training victory but all those aches and pains and muscle spasms in my back I’ve been dealing with for two years have been 100% gone since (roughly) my second swimming session.
The kid has also gone back into an official program. She’s taking lessons once a week now at a local swim club. My Saturday mornings are now inexorably linked to sitting poolside and playing on my phone while I pretend to admire her flipping about in the water.
I’m getting ready to do my fake violin exam. As in the next day. RCM level 3. A faux test concocted by my instructor to set some parameters around my lessons. It shouldn’t be as daunting as it has become in my mind. But it is.
And then I go into preparing for summer camp mode: I bit the bullet and signed up for the Rusty Musicians program with the ESO this summer. Five days of intensive playing leading to a concert, on stage, at the Winspear Centre. Simultaneously I’m stoked and completely freaking out.
Running has been solid. I have a half marathon this weekend, and I’m now officially on the waiting list for a baby-ultra in late May. After that, I think I’ll probably go into sympathetic training mode for the summer marathon season… sympathetic in that I have no plans to actually run the race, but I’ll follow along with my crew who actually are training for it. Diiiiiiiistance! Gah!
We’ve booked some vacation for November. Details redacted.
And the snow has finally seemed to have melted, so… summer? Maybe. Fingers crossed. I’ve been wearing shorts, so that’s a good sign, right? Maybe I’ll even find some time to write more here. Maybe.
