Having finished the skill tree in Duolingo the other day –even thought I’m aware that I still have a lot of work to do to keep learning in that particular app– I started contemplating the next step in my French language education. While a year in Paris or Montreal is probably off the table, it occurred to me that Amazon Kindle has a fairly extensive French language book library. But what to read? For my first post-Duo attempt at French literature I settled on a book that I’ve read already in English and that which I was already slightly compelled to re-read: The Martian. So despite needed to pay more for the French copy than I did for the English, I opted to consider it my “I finished Duolingo” reward (not to mention 760 days of consecutive practice) and splurged on “Seul Sur Mars” — and oddly enough, I’m reading (albeit very slowly) at about a 80% comprehension rate right now, so.
