02014-Jun-17 – 21:28 – Hanging at Home, on the Couch
And that’s what we call a day.
After a reasonably productive day, live-blogged if you’ve been following along with that too, I’m feeling entitled to a bit of a quiet evening on the couch as the sun sets.
02014-Jun-17 – 19:43 – TCRC
We went swimming. And then I not-so-smartly countered the tire-her-out swim with a bit of chocolate and sugar at the nearby Second Cup. That’s their second mention today, by the way… I should get an endorsement deal or something!
Good chocolate and sugar, apparently.

Peanuts are vegetables, right?
Waiting for our supper before the evening activities continue…
02014-Jun-17 – 16:41 – Claire’s School
Look who I found!
02014-Jun-17 – 16:14 – LRT, Southbound
So, Karin is in Calgary for the day and I’m on my way to pick up Claire for a daddy-daughter evening. It’s been a long day, and she’s going to either be tired and uncooperative about dinner, or completely bummed about her ongoing “BFF” friendship-is-a-pain and six-year-old-girls-are-mean situation. Maybe a post on that when the smoke clears. I’m contemplating a quick supper out somewhere (because we still can’t seem to catch up on groceries) and then maybe some time in the pool. We could both use a swim, her because it’ll burn off some energy, me because I’m not getting a run in tonight.
02014-Jun-17 – 15:55 – Train Platform
…aaaaaaand I literally just missed the train by a few inches. I now have five minutes to burn.
02014-Jun-17 – 15:50 – Ready to Go…
What’s I’ll be listening to on the commute home. #audible
02014-Jun-17 – 15:40 – My Desk
I’m trying to grow cacti from seeds at my desk. Y’know… to give the place some life.
I hadn’t noticed until just now –when I went to water it before I started packing up for the day– that the first little sprout, there on the right, has poked out of the sandy soil. Awesome. I’ve got a few successes of the same variety at home so I know it’s not a completely crazy prospect.
02014-Jun-17 – 13:06 – My Desk
Apparently bringing back weird souvenirs from your vacation for your coworkers is a thing now. I’ve started a small collection…
02014-Jun-17 – 12:00 – Still in Churchill Square
Apparently front facing iPhone cameras have an image orientation issue?
02014-Jun-17 – 11:57 – Churchill Square
City Hall Selfie! Yeah, I know I need a haircut…
02014-Jun-17 – 11:38 – Food Court, for Lunch
There are at least a dozen food courts downtown but I tend to end up at the Manulife Place one the most often. I don’t know why. Lately it has been to check out the construction of the new tower going in between Scotia Place and the BMO. Over the fall and winter they tore down a blocks-worth of old buildings, dug a parkade hole, and started building. Cranes recently appeared, and the site has started to create some speculation about the new building, apparently part hotel and part office complex, and potentially one of the tallest buildings to grace the skyline. For me, it’s lunch time entertainment.
02014-Jun-17 – 10:22 – Downtown, Coffee Break
My back still gets a little sore from sitting for long stretches at my desk. Two hours is about the max now, which is a marked improvement over a couple weeks ago. I use it as an excuse to do a lap around the mall.
Not much going on today though.
02014-Jun-17 – 08:00 – My Office
But now to do some work. Barring some epic excitement, I’ll check in on my break or at lunch….
02014-Jun-17 – 07:51 – Second Cup
I don’t always stop here for coffee, but I thought it would be a good excuse to write a post.
I’ve been progressively weaning myself off of that single-packet sugar-hit in my brew each morning. It’s tough, not only because it’s a years-long habit, but because the coffee that comes out of the machine at work is virtually undrinkable without some added sweetness. So sometimes I still do the sugar-thing… and sometimes not. Either way, I’m down by about half, so that’s a good thing right?
02014-Jun-17 – 07:38 – North Saskatchewan River
Of course, I also get variations on this awesome view twice a day. So, yeah, that’s a nice bonus of taking the train.
02014-Jun-17 – 07:25 – LRT, Northbound
Today’s morning commute was average. It’s usually pretty mellow when all I need to do is drive the five klicks from the house to the train station after breakfast. And at seven in the morning in the summer, the traffic is nearly always negligible.
I suppose that I could take the bus that goes right past our house at ten minute intervals, but the division of child taxi labour in our house is that Karin does drop offs and I do pick ups. In other words, my evening commute which takes me on a meandering route towards Claire’s school and then home, is a lot more hectic than the short jaunt each morning. Riding the train has its ups and downs, but overall it gives me a half an hour each way of mostly stress-free time to read, practice French, our just play games on my phone. I see traffic, but usually just from the window of the train. And of course I never need to worry about parking downtown.
02014-Jun-17 – 06:47 – Waiting to leave for work
Dad is all ready for his conference after staying overnight at L’Hotel Gratuit … In other words, our spare room.
02014-Jun-17 – 06:25 – Breakfast
Claire woke me up almost exactly and precisely as the alarm went off. No hitting the snooze button today. She was on a mission to make cards for all her friends before she went to school. Long story. But a nice activity over a bowl of Cheerios, I guess. The coffee didn’t wait until downtown this morning. I revved up the Tassimo while I munched my own cereal.
It’s June 17th and just a random Tuesday. If that’s not a good enough reason to live blog the day, then how about the fact that I just spent yesterday evening tweaking functionality for the same on this blog… and I need some kind of excuse to test it.
