What posts in June? Oh, thooooose thirty posts in June… again. It seems that for the fourth year in a row I’ve climbed aboard the daily blogging train and continued that monumental, multi-year writing effort to string a topic or idea across the vast reaches of years. Each day a new post on a new topic, but on the same blog-per-day topic as last year, creating another set of Those 30 Posts in June. Today, that post just happens to be:
June 12th // Something You Are Learning
I’ve mostly stopped grumbling a whole lot about my back injury, but it’s not exactly recovered. I mean, it’s good enough that I can do some light running and basic activity… but it’s not exactly recovered.
I don’t want to come across like some great sage of pain, here. My minor back ache is nothing compared to what some people go through daily… lifetimes of daily. And my point is not to seek pity or evoke undeserved sympathy. It just is what it is, and like so much in my life I’m chronicling it.
But if pain can evoke anything, I’m learning, it can evoke impatience. Life grinds to a halt when pain gets in the way. Day-to-day takes a little longer, everything moves a little slower, and existence creeps along at a pace that can seem glacial.
I’ve been injured before, either because of or otherwise related to running. I borked my ankle last year. I’ve dealt with iliotibial band pain, a common runner’s ailment. I’ve had sore knees, sore legs, sore calves, shoulder pain, chafing, sunburns and even just bothersome blisters. And all of it gets in the way of not just life, but in the way of doing something you love and working towards goals you’ve set for yourself.
It sucks. And all you can do is wait it out, work it out, stretch, and rest. All you can do is learn to be patient.
