What posts in June? Oh, thooooose thirty posts in June… again. It seems that for the fourth year in a row I’ve climbed aboard the daily blogging train and continued that monumental, multi-year writing effort to string a topic or idea across the vast reaches of years. Each day a new post on a new topic, but on the same blog-per-day topic as last year, creating another set of Those 30 Posts in June. Today, that post just happens to be:
June 4th // Something You Have Seen
I won’t lie and say I’m not disappointed that I missed the race this past Sunday.
I’m sad. I’m angry. I’m a little bitter. I’m crushed.
After all, when you set any goal it sucks to miss it, particularly when you’ve not only spent months preparing for it, but you’ve helped to lead others to that same place… and then sat and watched from the side, sore and frustrated, while they each crossed the lines and held high their successes.
I’m not angry at anyone of them, no. Don’t read me wrong here. I went down to Calgary on the weekend to watch the race, enjoy the spectator and race-crew-support part as much as I could, and take photos from a perspective I don’t usually get to see much lately: a race, from the sidelines.
When life gives you lemons, as they say… then make lemonade.
I watched. Cheered –though I’m not much of a whoop-whoop person, even on a good day. And I took photos. Lots of photos.
Watching isn’t so bad. Seeing your friends reach their goals is particularly awesome, and helps to contrast the pain (both literal and mental) that is bubbling somewhere though my sciatic nerve at the moment. And sometimes shit happens and you just need to suck it up and take the next best option.
So, I guess if I couldn’t run the race, to me the next best option was seeing it and taking some photos. Lemons meet lemonade:
