January 5, 9.98 kilometers

Five days into the new year and my shoes have already felt the cool tread of hard packed snow on their souls. In an effort to reach the three hundred and sixty-five kilometer mark in (now) a little less than one year I’ve trotted out my front door, down the street to the corner, and out onto the local ring road as I run East and then South to warmer climes.

After a mere 9.98 kilometers, as precisely measured by my brand new wrist-mounted GPS, I find myself merging from the Anthony Henday onto Calgary Trail.

It’s all virtual of course. In reality I’ve trudged around a couple local neighborhoods and back to the warmth of the car.

But I can’t help but wonder where the great road trip of 2009 will take me in a few weeks, months, or even years…
