This is a follow up to: Parts 1 & 2 Six runs down, Sparkle continues to do well (with the exception of one messy Friday morning — check out the comments in Part 2, link above.) Our focus has improved and my endurance is increasing for these early morning jaunts that used to be sheer torture. And, she seems to have resigned herself to the “it ain’t over til it’s over” mentality and hasn’t been pulling for home as much near the last stretches. Our schedule for week three is a bit of a level off for this one particular week. It’s not a recommendation, but rather this is due to (almost exclusively) the fact I’m registered in a 5K road race for Saturday morning and no dogs allowed. It means we need to shuffle the weekly schedule a little bit and forgo the Friday morning run — which is just fine, really considering my schedule this coming week and weekend. The Plan for Week Three Run 3.1: Wednesday Morning, 2 sets of 10+1s, Estimated: 3.2 km New Considerations Warm Up and Cool Downs: With longer intervals and further distances (and a post-sleep run in question) I think I need to think more about warm ups and cool downs, not only for myself for for the pup. As it is we walk for all of 200m before launching into the jog at hand. And walk a little more (depending on where our loops take us) to get home afterwards. Is there a good warm up and cool down distance for a dog? And do we need to think about stretching for the pup somehow afterwards? Light: Boldly jumping into the main event in mid-August meant our 6 AMs were almost full-morning dawn, and lighting was not a factor. But I’m noticing the mornings are getting dimmer (and cooler for that matter) as the weeks press on. And by mid September I’m fairly certain 6 AM will be pre-dawn dark. This might mean a better route and reflectors for pup and I, and that might take some prep-work. |

Running With Your Dog - Part 6 >> This is a follow up to: Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Poor planning on my part -- or not -- but the long weekend played havoc with my running plans. Ideally, I should find myself running wherever I happen to wake up
Running With Your Dog - Part 2 >> This is a follow up to: Part 1 Three runs down, Sparkle is taking to the jogging business quite well. I updated in the comments of Part 1 that our biggest issue has been her reluctance to de-bowel upon command. The
Running With Your Dog - Part 4 >> This is a follow up to: Parts 1, 2 & 3 Not counting my five kilometer road race on Saturday, Sparkle and I are completed eight runs to date. And things continue to improve. For myself, I've had one of my best
