Suspended Disbelief

The niece dragged her parents up here for a few days of visiting and after a full day of family-friendly activity — food and Fort Edmonton fun — Derek and I are opting to check out the premier of the new X-Files movie tonight, mere hours from this writing. I’m not exactly on the aliens-among-us bandwagon, but I’ll suspend my disbelief for an hour and a bit. It is fiction, after all.

You may recall Derek is (possibly) in the movie, and we spent some time speculating on great lines to tell other keeners queuing for the show tonight. I won’t bother sharing too many, but one could likely imagine the fun one could generate promoting the status of a two-frame extra in a movie line-up.

First, we considered humbly mentioning it to people nearby.

Second, we thought about checking for a discount.

Third, we noted that having David Duchovony’s phone number might have proven useful in this scheme. (We don’t, by the way.)

Fourth, we settled on nothing less than bringing along a red carpet. (But neither of us has one.)

Oh well. I guess we’ll just need to settle for popcorn and some uncomfortable, overpriced seats.
