Seeking an Editorial Staff, Unpaid

From Tuesday, July 8th, 2008, so about 146 days ago, [Popularity: 6%]

I’ve been working in the background putting together a collection of essays for a little — for lack of a better word — webzine I’m creating. Yes, yet another writing project — but we talked about that already, didn’t we? The concept is simple: seven essays on seven topics revolving around one theme that changes each issue, and (ideally) four issues per year. I’ve got about half the work done on the first issue and come the last week of July I’m thinking I could really use two or three people to help me do some editing work on the text. No pay, but I’ll credit you. And if this first issue works out I may think about additional authors. Leave a comment if you’re interested.

What kind of editing are you looking for? I have a little bit of experience in that area, and my curiosity is difficult to resist.

Well, here’s the thing. I’ve decided I need to put a little bit more effort into the writing if I ever expect it to go anywhere. To that end I wanted to work on a project that is a little more polished than the blog format (write, read, publish, rinse, repeat) and so I meandered up to this idea of a webzine with a set format and list of topics — and aiming for thought-out and quality pieces to fill the virtual pages. I’m aiming for two issues to start, one to be published mid-August and the other mid-November — and then I’ll evaluate. My goal is seven essays per issue, each two-thousand words, give or take — not exactly research papers, but op-ed style explorations of eclectic topics. And ideally I’d like two or three sets of eyes to go over each before I make them public, mostly for grammar and spelling, but if they turn out to be vague, disconnected ramblings that have no point then that would be a useful observation as well.

Well, I can’t say I have any experience in the area, but I’d like to believe my grasp of grammar and spelling is sufficiently advanced to be useful. In other words, if you’re suffering with a dearth of candidates, I’m happy to offer myself as a last, underqualified resort. ;)

Sounds right up my grammar-geek alley. Sign me up. Although, you should know quite well by now that I’m not necessarily one to criticize vague, disconnected ramblings that have no point…

I don’t have enough to do:) So if you are desperate enough to get help from your little sister you can count me in!
