The sevens are colliding. Seven years blogging, and now Claire celebrates her seven-month birthday — today. And I, work canceled due to the blizzard, get to spend the non-occasion with her. We just finished the breakfast routine, a detail I usually miss save for the weekends. Over this past weekend I spent an hour peeling and slicing apples, blending an improvised sauce blend come baby food. We froze nearly thirty gobs of the stuff for ready-to-eat meals for the girl. She just had a sample, though I ended up needing to trick her to get her to eat it. The weekly skills roundup includes: (1) Stepping, where, when held by the arms in a standing position, the girl likes to trot around the room, lifting her legs in a stumbling, ambling, march toward a variety of passing fancies, (2) Finger Foods, where, when given an Arrowroot cookie or sprawl of Cheerios she can actually manage to bring food to her mouth, and (3) Snorkeling, where, when her dad turns away for a fraction of a second to reach for a washcloth, Claire decides to do a face-plant into the tub and explore the aquatic life below the depths of her bathwater, startled and unimpressed by her discovery. |
