Planning for Two Weeks of Vacation!

December 15

We’re half way through December and, as luck would have it, I’m on holidays. That’s right, from start to end, I’m on day one of an eighteen day break from all things work. So, what’s the plan?

Day 15: Mom’s cooking is actually quite good.
When she can finally taste the shortbread, she’ll see that!

Aside from the annual Christmas shtik — and, of course, spending lots of time with my daughter — I’ve got a short list of things I’d like to accomplish.

1) Spend some quality time with the dog. She must want something — she keeps following me around the house!

2) Sort out my bookshelf, and spend some time cleaning off my reading list. In other words, nose-in-book!

3) Catch up on my video games. I was in the middle of three, and I’d like to finish at least one of those. Chris was nice enough to gift me a copy of Half-Life 2, and I’ve barely touched it. Ah, fatherhood.

4) Catch up on my media, including a few television episodes I’ve recorded or acquired, as well as a stack of back-downed podcasts. I will require SOME passive time.

5) Finish the jigsaw puzzle we’re working on. Family tradition, but maybe I shouldn’t have bought such a difficult one!

6) Spend some time on another round of cleaning in the basement. We’d like to think about a renovation there soon… but then not until the junk is sorted.

7) Cook a few nice meals. And I still want to make a gingerbread house!

8) Go on at least TWO photo expeditions. Yes, that means bundling up and (probably without the wimpy dog) going out in the cold for a couple hours in somewhere photo-esque. Not necessarily alone, but I will do what I need to.

9) Do some lead-up work for next year’s writing project, or in other words, think of a list of good ideas. I’m thinking a base list of ten, and at least one should be something I can work with for my first story, right?

10) Child-proof at least one floor of the house. Heck knows that one day — one day very soon — we’re going to wake up and have a mobile kid on our hands. And right now, that would be a fairly bad thing.

11) Get back into my exercise routine in whatever form that happens to be.

12) Investigate a class for January. I was thinking of taking an art class, but I’m not set on anything quite yet. Suggestions?

13) Sleep. I’ll need at least a few naps here and there.
