I took the opportunity of a lazy Sunday afternoon to test out the airbrush I bought. Unfortunately I don’t think the rate of paint delivery will be up to the task of painting fifty square feet of Lorax-Mural. The paint flows (while somewhat sporadically) at a steady dusting of color that would be more useful for painting, say, models, miniatures, or Catan tiles. Unless I wanted to spend a year with the hum of an air compressor in the room (nevermind that the baby will be here in a couple months) I think it is on to Plan B. Plan B: Paintbrushes. And while the finish will not be nearly as smooth, I think the time-factor will come into play — severely. I spent another hour or so (time flies on stuff like this) tossing up a grid on the wall, collaging a number of bits from various pages of the art in question, and pencil-sketching the mural onto the wall. The result is a little rough, but I’ll be going over it with a little more of an eye for detail in the next few days, then as soon as I can score some paint (and I need nine or ten colors) the blocking and other fun will begin. It’s kinda like a five by ten foot paint-by-number now. I tried snapping some photos but the flash just washes the pencil lines out and it would give you a headache to try and decipher those images. Readers will just need to wait until there is something more colourful to see. |
