… another project. We commenced the countdown to baby-time officially this weekend by removing the computer and stuff from the office and beginning the purge of the room that will eventually become the nursery. Simply cleaning and sorting through the accumulated junk from our old “work space” is going to take some serious time, but in the meanwhile there is plenty of planning to be done. After all, what better way to welcome a new life than with a fresh, clean space full of colour and fun? Like all modern parents, this means gutting a room, painting it with some shade of pastel (and no, we’re not finding out so it’s going to be a gender-neutral pastel), and stuffing said room with functional furniture designed to make child-rearing that much more enjoyable. Initially, we mused over a number of colour choices, but ultimately decided on something in the orange zone of the colour-wheel. Pastel orange, of course. But unable to decide the optimum dark or light orange, we moved towards a feeling of both. Now we’re leaning strongly towards a split: very light orange on the top, a slightly deeper (though still pale) hue on the bottom, and a chair rail dividing the two. Last night, while sorting through junk in the still-disaster-zone room, I stumbled upon some old cut-outs I’d had kicking around from way-back and it spawned a seed of an idea: a mural. One of the walls is calling out for a touch of fun, so I think on the upper slate of one of the walls (roughly a five by ten foot slate) I’m going to sketch and paint a Seussian scene a’la my all-time-favorite The Lorax. I uncovered some sites offering inspiration, such as this one, this one, and this one. But as I implied in the title, I need more projects about as much as I need a sinus infection. (Not at all.) But that’s still not going to stop me. I’m sure there will be updates here, though, so worry not: you will get to see the final product. |
