Driving adventures…
IMPORTED FROM OUR TRAVEL BLOG: Brad, Karin (and Ryan) Do Europe ‘06
Oh….. my…. yikes!
We’ve been quiet for a few days due to lack of Internet — and also the fact we’ve been gogogogogogoooooooing steady.
We left Berlin on Friday, driving. Karin navigated us onto the Autobahn, and after 6 hours in heavy traffic at about 140 – 160 km/h my knuckles are now permanetly white.
Koln was rainy. We visited the cathedral that evening and wandered the town a bit. We ended up “crashing” a bit of a party at a restaurant when (out of other seats) the watier put us at a table with a big german family(?) havign some kind of dinner. Can anyone say awkward?
We found ourselves in Amsterdam on Saturday evening. Two and half hours total between the line and the museum to visit AnneFrankHuis, then it was a quiet dinner in a small restaurant. I took Karin and ryan through the Red Light District, only because it’s a must see. It was enlightening.
The next day we drove up through holland, to a small fishing village for lunch (toursity) and over the djik to visit my relatives. That was a nice break, and Henk toured us through Friesland up to the Northern coast for a look.
Yesterday, we got a persnalized waling tour of Leeuwarden, and then bck in the car for another short drive to a new location.
So far we’ve put on a bout 1200 km in the car (and gas is EXPENSIVE here!), and I’ve taken about 1100 photos. Look out for the upcoming slide show!
Last night’s accomodations were interesting. My second cousin (once removed) (i think that’s how the relations work) is the manager of a “recreationpark” here in Rjissen. Think of it like a cross between a resort, campsite, and cabin community. We got two nights (for free) in a “cabin/trailer”. It’s about as close to camping as I think we can come here.
Today, it’s raining again. A little drizzle here and there. But we’re taking a bit of a short day to break for the last week’s push to the finish.
