IMPORTED FROM OUR TRAVEL BLOG: Brad, Karin (and Ryan) Do Europe ‘06
Thought I would write a quick note to say: (a) Karin’s luggage arrived at the hotel around 8 PM in Berlin last night. She’s much relieved (as you can probably imagine) and can now change her clothes, and (b) the trip has begun….! It’s about quarter to seven here, just about dinner time.
After an early night, I was awake by 4 AM (this jet lag is a real bugger). Breakfast was awsome (European-style) and after boarding the bus and fighting rush-hour in Berlin for over an hour, we were on the road. Our first stop was a 2 hour lunch break in Dresden: we wandered around the old city, snapped some pics of the churches (no place to upload digital cameras yet, sorry) and ate some pizza in the market (I ordered in German — how cool is that!). The lineup for the “famous” cathedral was a little over an hour long, so we took some photos outside, and walked around the palace grounds instead.
Next, we were off to Prague. It took us about 45 minutes to cross the Czech border because of the line-up, but we made it here and apparently we’re going on a night-tour of the city after dinner (or in about 1 1/2 hours). I just had a beer with some of the other tour-ees in the lobby of the hotel. I’ll brag it up because it was a PilsnerUrquell (local brew) famous from the Pilsner(??) region nearby Prague. Yes, invented here, for the el-cheapo price of 50 crowns, roughly $3 CAN. I feel rich, reaching into my pocket and pulling out 200s and 500s.
For all those fretting about Karin’s luggage… it’s here. And having nearly recovered from the jet lag, we’re having a great time.
