a legend passes wind
For those out of the loop, not only am I writing this entry from a brand spanking new laptop computer, but I’m doing so from the bowels of a painful RedHat install. That’s all I need to say about that.
sushi anyone
It seems Saturday is sushi day, lately.
Karin, feeling increasingly better after her ordeal, has decided that she needs a treat and wants to walk down to the local sushi place for dinner tonight. I figure when they analyze the remains of her kidney stone they are going to discover an unhealthy level of soy sauce in her diet or something, and recommend that she decrease her sushi intake significantly.
Devastating. We may as well move out of the city right now!
erratum correctum
Apparently my rant regarding the cost relationship between hours on the bus and safety on the bus, met with some objection. I will clarify:
Theoretically, yes, I could ride the bus for, say, 15 hours a day, but anyone who has ever ridden the bus for longer than fifteen minutes on a semi-regular basis will attest that it is not a fun experience. And despite the inherent cost-effectiveness of riding more to “get my money’s worth” I just simply don’t have that many places to go. Cost per kilometer, yes, this would give a slight advantage to the bus company, raking in my fare at about two cents a kilometer. However, accounting for the dramaitically increased likeliness off serious injury if I were to put 4500 km on my bus pass each month — and given that in about 10 months of riding I have (honestly) been sent to the hospital once — calculated at about 10x the frequency, this would mean that approximately once a month I would be injured (on average). Add this medical hardship cost-in-kind to the seemingly low price of a transit pass and suddenly it doesn’t seem so cheap. My ankle hurts just thinking about it.
By the way, to any on of my relatives seriously interested in attempting this feat, my bus pass is completely and legally transferable, and I will gladly welcome any bus-related research as you make your way directionlessly around the city for a couple days at my expense.
