I’m not really a cat person

The television news — that annoying group of morning people on channel 11 who I only tolerate because they actually DO have news to tell — made it their top story to warn people that there was a cougar on the loose in Burnaby. Okay. Karin checked the map and it was loose about ten short blocks from our apartment. Not that I’m actually concerned. I mean, given that the cougar is on the news — and it is technically just a cougar and not a whole pack (or whatever you call more than one cougar) of cougars. Technically — and I put my blind faith in the system, here — the news was reporting it because the people who are responsible for rounding up loose cougars (or just cougars on the loose) have long since found said cougar, sedated it, and shipped it off to Kamloops or the like to terrorize the “far-less valuable” people who live there. It’s only on the news as an afterthought and as a warm up to some later bragging rights of the aforementioned “cougar-hunters” who can (and will) say that they rounded up a cougar on the loose in Burnaby. I doubt the so-called authorities were watching Global this morning and — in a coffee-spitting burst of surprise — realized that they were slacking on the job and should get out there and “catch that cougar”. I’m sure they were on top of things.

Either way, I kept my head up walking to Skytrain this morning. If one cougar can make it near our apartment, there’s always a chance that two can make it.

One less reason to move to Edmonton… or maybe, one more!

My sister-in-law calls us last night to inform us that she has taken a job in Calgary. Teaching. Some school. I don’t really pay attention to the details too well. This means that (a) they are moving to Calgary shortly after the wedding, (b) we will have someone to pick us up and drop us off at the airport when we go to Alberta to visit, and (c) my brother is almost officially a “kept-man” — provided he doesn’t do something like go get a job or whatever.
