It’s no secret that I don’t agree with American war policies. So when I heard the discussion on the radio this morning, I passed this note along to the host. I thought I should give my two cents on some American reporter’s commentary that Canada has no moral resolve when it comes to joining the attack on Iraq. Moral resolve??? The United States has justified their extreme-aggressive, imperialistic, and (yes) genocidal attacks on middle eastern nations through the propogation of fear through it’s peoples. Perhaps there is reason for fear from past or future terrorist activities, but if Big Brother Bush put as much thought and effort into mindful consideration of the foreign policy and worldly perception of his nation, rather than using that energy to spread mistrust, hate, and fear, chances are that the threat of terrorism against the “free” nations of the world would be more significantly decreased than simply by bombing anyone who may not bow to US politics. In the 1930s another infamous elected world leader used fear and mistrust to guide a nation of international power to corruption, mass-murder, expansionist economic attacks on neighboring countries, and eventual world war. Millions of German citizens also thought they were doing the right thing to protect their so-called freedom. And fortunately there were countries and people who didn’t agree with this ideology. Canada may not be bowing to US interests today, but in 50 years will we look back on that as a good thing or a bad thing — and will history remember us for it? |
