Over the river and through the woods to Karin’s house we go: she moved into her new shack yesterday and seems to be doing okay. [ But she won't argue with that, and so instead I'm meeting her after work for beer on Granville Island with recent comp-sci alum, Carl, who apparently rode his bike from Edmonton to Vancouver last week. [ That is a pedal bike - not a motor bike. ] Markian might be sloshed as I seem to recall a similar theme last summer from his conversations. Never did do it though. Too bad for him. ] Now if only Karin could find a job as easy as she got a place to live, everything would be better. Have been stumbling across many references to the new book by Stephen Wolfram, [ wired, nature ] wherein he tries to declare a universal theory of everything. I have read the reviews and I think I had most of that worked out already - you know - ultimate understanding of the universe, etc… I just didn’t want to write a 1200 page book about it. If I could bother to spare the 50 odd plus bucks to pick up a copy, it is apparently soon to be either a bestseller second only to the Bible, or a fashionable doorstop unworthy of a second read. Too bad the library doesn’t have a copy. They have lots of doors. |
